OBJECTIVE

The vision for Seed LA is to utilize the resources of our partners in order to tackle our big picture goals.

Seed LA is grateful to partner with organizations who manage our regions’ highest tier conservation seed banks.

It can be challenging to establish seed conservation and seed banking sites, securing physical facilities and acquiring costly seed processing equipment and tools.

Seed LA designed our model with this in mind, utilizing the already existing seed banking facilities among our partners.

California Botanic Garden Seed Bank

partnerships

California Botanic Garden (formerly known as Rancho Santa Ana Botanic Garden) is located in Claremont, CA and houses the largest seed bank dedicated to California native plants.

California Botanic Garden’s Seed Program maintains a collection of wild collected and cultivated seed to facilitate greater understanding, conservation, education, botanical research, and the horticultural use of California’s flora as defined in the institutional mission statement.

California Botanic Garden has generously lent their space for  Seed LA to bank seeds, use their state of the art equipment and learn from their knowledgeable seed conservationists.

Theodore Payne Foundation for Wildflowers and Native Plants Seed Bank

Inspired by the work of Theodore Payne, the Theodore Payne Foundation for Wildflowers and Native Plants (TPF) is a champion for native plant education, resources, plants, and seeds in the Los Angeles area.

Theodore Payne Foundation’s Seed & Bulb Program builds genetic diversity in the urban environment by providing native seed and bulbs to home gardeners, researchers, school gardens, education programs, community groups, and for restoration efforts, as well as through propagation in our own nursery.

Theodore Payne Foundation collects and stores seed for TPF’s Local Source Initiative and Long Live LA seed bank, and generously collaborates and offers resources to Seed LA.
